The IARS International Institute is pleased to announce that the EpsiLon project has been featured on the Erasmus+ website showcasing the project’s results and impact on tackling discrimination against LGBT+ migrants in Europe.
During 2016 – 2018 IARS together with its European partners delivered the EpsiLon (Equipping Professionals for supporting LGBT+ Migrants and Refugees) project, which sought to address two urgent educational needs in Europe, including the rise in migrant and refugee numbers and the persistent inequality and persecution of Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans-gender groups (LGBT).
The combination of these two characteristics makes LGBT+ migrants and refugees one of the most vulnerable groups in modern Europe. The EpsiLon project aimed to help address this issue by increasing the knowledge, skills and awareness of all those adult professionals who come in contact with them.
With partners in the Netherlands, Italy, Greece and Croatia, we developed a pan-European training course that informs adult educators of the needs and issues LGBT+ migrants face.
The training course consists of various different modules and educational tools that enable the professionals and volunteers to identify the LGBT+ groups’ most current and urgent needs, some even reaching on issues of survival, dignity and respect. It also helps professionals to challenge their own biases and improve their skills in providing tailored and culturally sensitive services.
